Note: This taxon has not been formally recognized or named, therefore there is no authority listed beside the scientific name above. The late Tom Patrick, formerly with the Ga. DNR, Natural Heritage Program, and noted Trillium expert, recognized the plant as different and in need of naming as a distinct species, but as of this date (Nov. 24, 2020) it remains in limbo. See below for more information.

Trillium species 2. AMICALOLA TRILLIUM. Rich forests. Under study by Tom Patrick, Tom Govus, and Susan Farmer. Also recently found in SC. Perhaps merely a form of T. simile. [= Amicalola Trillium – Patrick (2007)]. From: Weakley, Alan S. - Flora of the Southern and Mid-Atlantic States, Working Draft of 9 May 2019.

Note on identification:

From my experience, the flowers (when photographed without a flash) are very pale yellow to off-white and are held slightly above to slightly below the leaves. I'm not familiar with the other characteristics that Tom Patrick used to separate this taxon from the other Trilliums.
